I recently purchased the GoWise Air Fryer and I love it! Some people get excited about new shoes, well I on the other hand get excited about new kitchen gadgets. I decided to test my new GoWise Air Fryer with my orange chicken recipe. My little nieces love Panda Express’ orange chicken and have been asking me to make it. In fact they liked my orange chicken recipe better than Panda Express. They didn’t even notice the chicken was cooked using an air fryer versus deep frying.
This recipe does take a bit of preparation but definitely worth the time. Cut the chicken breasts into small bite pieces and set it to the side. Crack a large egg into a large bowl and give it a quick whisk then add in your chicken pieces and season with salt and black pepper along with 1 TBS of Chinese cooking wine and give it a toss. Next combine the flour, cornstarch, salt and black pepper into a large ziplock bag and add your chicken and egg mixture and give it a good shake. I toss the chicken into the flour mixture in batches to make sure they have a nice amount of flour coating. Place them on a plate and spray with olive oil cooking spray. This will help the chicken from sticking together and also give it a nice golden color. Transfer the chicken pieces to the air fryer tray. I lined my air fryer tray with tin foil but next time will opt out. Use the manual option and change the temperature to 370 degrees Fahrenheit and set it for 12 minutes. The timer will ring. Open and pull the air fryer tray and flip the chicken pieces over and spray with cooking oil. Set the air fryer for another 12 minutes. You can cut into one of the chicken pieces to make sure it is cooked all the way through. My air fryer took a total of 24 minutes.
For the sauce you will need Chinese cooking wine, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, orange juice, brown sugar, garlic, ginger cornstarch, water and honey. For an extra kick add in some red chili flakes. Since I was making this for my little nieces I did not want to make it spicy and opted out. The sauce will keep up to a week in the fridge, so feel free to make it a head of time to cut your cooking time. Once the sauce thickens into a nice syrup, turn off the stove and let it cool for 5 minutes before you add in the cooked chicken. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and you are done. I paired my orange chicken with a side of rice.
My orange chicken recipe was a success! If you don’t own an air fryer, no problem. Simply deep fry the chicken and the recipe will still be delicious with some extra calories. I also made french fries, egg rolls, chicken wings and vegetables using my new GoWise Air Fryer and they turned out great. It’s easy, fast and healthier way to cook. Enjoy!
